What Are Dentures?
Dentures are prosthetic teeth that take the place of any missing teeth. They replace natural teeth in order to help with chewing as well as provide support to the lips and cheeks. There are three different types of dentures: copy dentures, complete dentures, and removable/fixed partial dentures.

Copy Dentures
Copy dentures are a replica of a patient’s current dentures. These dentures are usually made for patients who require a full set of dentures. However, they can also be created for patients who only require partial dentures. Copy dentures are made by taking an impression of a patient’s current dentures and making a replica of them. These types of dentures are beneficial for patients who want a spare.
Complete Dentures
Patients who have lost all of their teeth will want complete dentures. These are a full set of dentures that are usually created as a full arch or dual arches.
Fixed/Removable Partial Dentures
Removable/Fixed Partial dentures are for patients who have only lost some teeth. We construct these dentures from crowns that are the same size as the patient’s natural teeth. Although fixed dentures are pricier than removable dentures, they are more stable.
What Are Dentures Made Of?
Dentures will naturally wear out over a period of time and must be replaced or relined so that the jaw alignment remains normal. Since dentures are to replace any missing teeth, the gum ridge where the missing tooth was will recede. In turn, this will slowly start to shift the alignment of the jaw. It is important that patients visit the dentist regularly to make sure that are no shifts or irregularities.
How Can You Take Care of Dentures?
Dentures are often constructed from acrylic and then fabricated by either porcelain, plastic, or the two mixed together. Dentures can fit over dental implants in order for a better, more secure fit.
