The Procedure
Porcelain Veneers require three appointments:
- The first appointment will involve a consultation with a specialist to analyze the situation and creating a treatment plan catered to your specific case and needs. (Diagnosis & Treatment)
- The second appointment involves preparation of the patient’s teeth for bonding. (Preparation)
- The third appointment is used to finalize all the previous work and bond the veneers to the tooth. (Bonding)
Diagnosis & Treatment

Preparation
Following the first appointment, the second appointment will take roughly 2 -3 hours to complete. In order to ensure that the veneer has a clean and secure location to be placed, the natural tooth must be buffed first. This procedure usually involves a specialist removing about half a millimeter of surface area. Local anesthesia is also available for situations where patient discomfort becomes too much to bear.
A mold of your teeth will also be taken during your second appointment. This mold will be transported to our lab where custom veneers will be created utilizing exact measurements from the mold. In select cases, temporary veneers are available during this appointment to act as a placeholder. Typically, permanent veneers require around 1-2 weeks to arrive.
Bonding
During your third appointment, your dentist will check the initial fit of the custom veneers to check for color and comfort. If needed, the color of the veneer will the adjusted to complement the rest of the patients smile. After finalizing the final fit and color, the patient’s teeth will be cleaned through the use of chemicals to ensure the bonding area is clean. A cement is placed between the veneer and the tooth and is hardened with the aid of a high-intensity light. This entire process should take no more than 1-2 hours.
Post Operation & Maintenance
Veneers require a standard dental routine of brushing twice a day and flossing daily. A follow-up appointment is recommended 1 – 2 weeks after the bonding process. During the first and second week following the procedure, your teeth may experience some cold and hot sensitivity.
