What Are Porcelain Veneers?
If you are looking to better your smile or fix a chipped tooth, we offer porcelain veneers. They are thin frames of ceramic that are directly bonded to the top and front surfaces of a patient’s teeth. Our porcelain veneers are becoming extremely popular because they offer a simple and quick alternative solution for gaps between patient’s teeth, stains or crooked and a poorly shaped teeth. Placing a veneer on the top of your teeth will help diminish any previous insecurities you carried and regain your confidence with a radiant smile.
Veneers Appear Like Normal Teeth
After being secured onto the teeth, the thin porcelain veneers will appear to look like your natural teeth and will go unnoticeable. On top of that, they are highly resistant to tea, cigarette and coffee stains! Veneers may resemble healthy and natural white teeth, but they also offer the strength to make them feel completely natural to a patient. Occasionally, light can shine through the thin layer and highlight the natural color of the underlying tooth.
Porcelain Veneers are Durable
When well maintained and under proper care, a patient’s porcelain veneers may ensure a glowing smile every day for well over a decade. Our dentists ensure you that our veneers are constructed from supreme quality porcelain and are bonded onto teeth with the most innovative and quality resources.
A patient will be required to schedule three separate appointments:
- The first appointment will focus on diagnosis and the designing of a treatment plan
- The second visit will be utilized to prepare the patient and teeth for bonding
- The last visit is when the bonding gets done.
Diagnosis & Treatment Planning
At Personal Dental Office, you will be a constant factor in determining the best diagnosis and plan for treatment. We will offer information, limits, and advice to help alls patient regain confidence in their smiles.
The second visit will take approximately 2 to 3 hours. In order to place the thin veneers, the teeth need to be buffed so that we can add an additional layer of thickness. We will remove about one half of a millimeter. If needed, we also offer local anesthesia to ensure the patient’s comfort.
During your visit, a mold of your teeth will be taken and shipped to our lab for production. In special cases, we have the option of placing a temporary veneer during this visit because the permanent veneer takes about 1 to 2 weeks to arrive.
On your third appointment, the doctor will place the veneer by first placing it with glycerin or water to check the initial fit and color. If needed, the color of the veneer may be adjusted with the cement that will be used to seal it. After determining the proper color, the teeth will be cleaned with chemicals in order to achieve a precise bond. Between the veneer and teeth, we utilize a special cement that is hardened with a light beam. The entire appointment should take about 1 to 2 hours.
Post Operation Care and Follow-Ups
To ensure that your veneers are well maintained, we advise all our patients to routinely brush and floss daily. We also urge patients to return for a follow-up visit after 1 or 2 weeks.
After receiving your veneers, the best way to maintain their glow and look is by continuing to brush and floss as regularly. Our porcelain veneers are strong and will not be damaged from being under the pressure of a brush or floss. We recommend non-abrasive toothpaste, along with a good home care routine to ensure that you get the most from your new and beautiful veneers.
During your first two weeks of recovery after the procedure, your teeth may begin to experience a bit of cold and hot sensitivity. This is common with the procedure and is due to the trace amounts of enamel on the tooth. If the sensitivity continues for more than two weeks, please contact our office.
If you are known to bite or grind your teeth (bruxer), please make sure you let our doctors know. This way we may recommend custom and specific orthotic options that you wear when you sleep and will ultimately minimize the stress on your teeth.
We hope that new porcelain veneers will give you confidence in your smile. When properly taken care of and with routine visits, your veneers will guarantee a beautiful smile for many years to come.
